In my work, I love to capture the quiet moments of people in museums, entirely lost in the act of looking. This painting captures a viewer lost in Mark Rothko's Red On Red.
Rothko painted on massive vertical canvases, these works were meant to engulf the viewer. Rothko preferred dim lighting and close viewing distances so the color fields would completely dominate the spectator's field of vision and trigger a transcendent, almost religious experience.
All the best, Gerard
